Poker is a gambling game where players try to make the best hand. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. In some variations, the pot may be awarded to the lowest hand.<\/p>\n
The basic rule is that each player is dealt a card face down. A player may discard up to three cards. However, if the player folds, he is still receiving cards.<\/p>\n
If two or more players have called the opening bet, the pot plays. When the betting is complete, a showdown occurs. Each hand is then revealed.<\/p>\n
Some games allow players to bluff by making a forced bet. These bets are ante bets or blind bets. Unlike ante bets, these bets are not allowed to be withdrawn.<\/p>\n
Some players may win the pot by bluffing. If the player bluffs, they are able to take the pot for a larger amount than they would have won had they been drawing.<\/p>\n
A poker hand consists of five cards. A pair of aces, for example, is the lowest hand. Five of a kind is the highest hand. Straights are also common. Occasionally, straight hands of five cards are used as the final showdown.<\/p>\n
Most games have an ante. This ante is the amount of money that the first player is required to put into the pot. For instance, if the first player bets $50 and another player bets $10, then both are obligated to put in $20.<\/p>\n
